Writers’ Trust expands RBC Bronwen Wallace Award to creative nonfiction

The Writers’ Trust of Canada has added a new category to the RBC Bronwen Wallace Award for Emerging Writers.

The annual award, established in 1994, grants $10,000 to emerging writers of fiction and poetry — and now will grant a prize to a writer of creative nonfiction.

Submissions for the annual awards are now open in all three categories and will close on Dec. 16. The awards are open to writers of all ages whose work has appeared in an independently edited literary magazine or anthology and who are unpublished in book form. Finalists in each category will receive $2,500 and a trip to Toronto to attend the award ceremony in June.

The award and its expansion are sponsored by RBC, which has sponsored the award since 2007.

The winners of this year’s awards were Faith Paré and Nayani Jensen.
