University of Toronto Press has acquired the linguistics catalogue of U.K.-based independent academic publisher Equinox Publishing.
The academic publisher announced the acquisition – part of the growth of its global list – on Sept. 17. The acquisition includes more than 20 journals and several hundred book titles from Equinox, an independent publisher founded in 2003 and currently based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.
UTP plans to develop and grow the linguistics list with new signings and partnerships, with editorial work to be undertaken by the UTP team in Canada in conjunction with editors in the U.S. and U.K. It is UTP’s first acquisition from a U.K.-based publisher.
Earlier this year, UTP acquired the assets of independent law publisher Irwin Law.
