Award-winning writer Sue Goyette has been named Halifax’s eighth poet laureate. She takes over from Afua Cooper, who has held the position since 2018.
Goyette, who is the author of six poetry collections and a novel, teaches creative writing at Dalhousie University. In 2014, she was nominated for the Griffin Poetry Prize and the Governor General’s Literary Award for her collection, Ocean (Gaspereau Press), which took home several other awards, including the Pat Lowther Memorial Award and the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia Masterworks Arts Award.
Her forthcoming collection, Anthesis, is expected from Gaspereau Press this year.
