Five books were named finalists of the 2023 Toronto Book Awards on September 5.

The annual Toronto Book Awards honour books of literary merit that are inspired by Toronto. Finalists each receive $1,000 and the winner receives $10,000.
The shortlisted books are:
- Nomenclature by Dionne Brand (McClelland & Stewart/Penguin Random House Canada)
- Wild Fires by Sophie Jai (The Borough Press/HarperCollins Publishers)
- Moving the Museum by Wanda Nanibush and Georgiana Uhlyarik (Goose Lane Editions)
- Finding Edward by Sheila Murray (Cormorant Books)
- Clara at the Door with a Revolver by Carolyn Whitzman (On Point Press/UBC Press)
A longlist of 13 books was announced last month.
The winner will be announced on October 10.
This year, 105 books published between June 1, 2022 and May 31, 2023 were submitted to the award. The jury for this year’s prize is comprised of Kateri Akiwenzie-Damm, Jamila-Khanom Allidina, Steven W. Beattie, Sue Carter, and karen lee.
