Multi-talented author, designer, and typographer Robert Bringhurst has been named this year’s recipient of the Robert R. Reid Award and Medal. The Alcuin Society prize honours lifetime achievement in Canadian book arts.
The B.C.–based Bringhurst, who was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2013, is the author of more than 35 titles, including the seminal The Elements of Typographic Style. His latest book is Learning to Die: Wisdom in the Age of Climate Crisis (University of Regina Press), a collaborative discussion with his wife, poet Jan Zwicky, about living in the end times.
The award will be presented in Vancouver at a later date.
