After shortlists dominated by independent presses were announced earlier this spring, the winners of the 2024 Trillium Book Awards continued that trend.
The winners were announced at a ceremony in Toronto on June 20. The Trillium Award, now in its 37th year, recognizes excellence in Ontario writing in both French and English.
Nina Dunic won the Trillium Book Award for her debut novel The Clarion (Invisible Publishing). She was one of five writers shortlisted for the award.
A. Light Zachary was named winner of the Trillium Book Award for Poetry for their debut collection More Sure (Arsenal Pulp Press), one of three shortlisted titles.
Nicolas Weinberg won the Prix Trillium for his Vivre ou presque (Éditions L’Interligne).
The French poetry award was not awarded this year due to an insufficient number of entries.
Winning authors of the Trillium Book Award receive $20,000, while winning poets of the Trillium Book Award for Poetry receive $10,000. Publishers of the winning titles receive support to promote and market the winning books. Previous winners include Stuart Ross, Souvankham Thammavongsa, and Dionne Brand.
