HarperCollins Canada executive editor of children’s books Hadley Dyer has acquired Canadian English-language rights to the first YA novel by Man Booker and Orange Prize–winning Irish-Canadian author Emma Donoghue. The Lotterys Plus One deals with themes of family and tolerance, and follows Sumac Lottery, a girl with six siblings, four parents, and a racist, homophobic grandfather that comes to live with them in their Toronto home.

HarperCollins Canada senior vice-president and executive publisher Iris Tupholme said in a press release: “We have had a long and extremely successful relationship with Emma Donoghue. We are delighted to have this opportunity to introduce one of Canada’s most beloved writers to a new generation of readers.”

The deal was arranged by Caroline Davidson of the Caroline Davidson Literary Agency.
