The finalists for the City of Calgary W.O. Mitchell Book Prize and the Robert Kroetsch City of Edmonton Book Prize, both administered by the Writers’ Guild of Alberta, were announced on April 3 and 5, respectively.
Three authors’ books have been named as finalists for the annual City of Calgary W.O. Mitchell Book Prize:
- Suzette Mayr, The Sleeping Car Porter (Coach House Books)
- Vivek Shraya, People Change (Penguin Canada)
- Joshua Whitehead, Making Love with The Land (Knopf Canada)
The winner of the $5,000 prize will be announced at the the Calgary Awards presentation in June.
The following authors were shortlisted for the Robert Kroetsch City of Edmonton Book Prize:
- Norma Dunning, Kinauvit? What’s Your Name? (Douglas & McIntyre)
- Michael Hingston, Try Not to Be Strange: The Curious History of the Kingdom of Redonda (Biblioasis)
- Matthew James Weigel, Whitemud Walking (Coach House Books)
The winning author receives a prize of $10,000.
