The Writers’ Trust has announced the five finalists for the 2024 Hilary Weston Writers’ Trust Prize for Nonfiction.
The annual prize recognizes excellence in literary nonfiction and is supported by the Hilary and Galen Weston Foundation. This is the second year that the purse for the prize is $75,000, a bump from its previous $60,000 reward. Finalists receive $5,000.
A jury comprised of Canadian nonfiction writers Annahid Dashtgard, Taylor Lambert, and Christina Sharpe selected the finalists from 117 titles submitted by 74 publishing imprints.
The shortlisted books are:
- There Is No Blue by Martha Baillie (Coach House Books)
- Vantage Points: On Media as Trans Memoir by Chase Joynt (Arsenal Pulp Press)
- Here After: A Memoir by Amy Lin (Zibby Books)
- Invisible Prisons: Jack Whalen’s Tireless Fight for Justice by Lisa Moore and Jack Whelan (Knopf Canada)
- Everything and Nothing At All: Essays by Jenny Heijun Wills (Knopf Canada)
The winner will be announced at the Writers’ Trust Awards on Nov. 19.
