Six books have been named to the 2024 Amazon First Novel Award shortlist.
The annual award, co-presented with The Walrus, honours debut novels. The winner receives $60,000, and each finalist receives $6,000.
The shortlisted books are:
- Empty Spaces by Jordan Abel (McClelland & Stewart/Penguin Random House Canada)
- As the Andes Disappeared by Caroline Dawson (Book*hug Press)
- And Then She Fell by Alicia Elliott (Doubleday Canada/PRHC)
- Tauhou by Kōtuku Titihuia Nuttall (House of Anansi Press)
- A History of Burning by Janika Oza (McClelland & Stewart/PRHC)
- The Berry Pickers by Amanda Peters (Harper Perennial/HarperCollins)
This year’s six-book shortlist was selected by a jury comprised of Billy-Ray Belcourt, francesca ekwuyasi, Kaie Kellough, and Souvankham Thammavongsa.
The winner will be announced at an event on June 6.
