Deals: The magic realism and rich world of Eden Robinson’s Trickster trilogy make it the perfect fit for a TV series adaptation

Michelle Latimer, founder of Streel Films, didn’t expect to find her next project when she picked up Eden Robinson’s novel Son of a Trickster. “I wasn’t actively looking for properties, just a good book to read,” says the filmmaker and actor, who in March teamed up with Jennifer Kawaja, co-founding producer of Sienna Films (Cardinal, Combat Hospital), to acquire TV rights to Son of a Trickster and its sequels.

Herménégilde Chiasson’s debut poetry collection – one of the core texts of Acadian literature – is finally appearing in English translation

It was activist involvement that gave birth to Chiasson’s first book of poetry, the 1974 collection Mourir à Scoudouc. Published by Éditions d’Acadie, the book helped establish Acadian writing as a vibrant and viable form and went on to sell an astonishing 4,000 copies.
