FEATURED EVENT
So Long, Art Bar
Tuesday, June 28
There aren’t many events this week, as the Canada Day long weekend approaches, but of the two listed below, one is worth special notice. The Art Bar Poetry Series takes its final bow on Tuesday, after a quarter century and multiple locations. “The nice thing about the Art Bar is how it was open to literary writers and spoken-word poets, and it found the intersection of those two disparate cultures,” author Robert Priest told Q&Q earlier this year. Tuesday’s “retirement party” offers a healthy bill of performers, though it will forgo its traditional open mic. Black Swan Tavern, 154 Danforth Ave., Toronto. 8 p.m. PWYC
MONDAY, JUNE 27
Vancouver Poetry Slam: Poetry slam competition with frequent guest performers. Cafe Deux Soleils, 2096 Commercial Dr., Vancouver. 8 p.m. $5
TUESDAY, JUNE 28
Art Bar Poetry Series Retirement Party: Canada’s longest running weekly poetry-only reading series comes to an end. With Sandra Kasturi, Lizzie Violet, Banoo Zan, Dave Silverberg, James Dewar, Heather J. Wood, Norman Cristofoli, Edward Nixon, Jacob McArthur Mooney, Lara Bozabalian, Farzana Doctor, Sarah Beaudin. No open mic. Black Swan Tavern, 154 Danforth Ave., Toronto. 8 p.m. PWYC
