This month, the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War is being recognized around the world. The Great War saw nearly 61,000 Canadian casualties in infamous battles at Vimy Ridge, Somme, Passchendaele, and elsewhere in Europe, while Canadian women toiled in munitions factories, producing a quarter of all artillery shells for British and Dominion forces by 1917.
One hundred years later, the stories of those who lived and fought through the war are being told anew in several Canadian books. Click through the cover images below for a selection of non-fiction and kids’ books due out in the fall season.
