There’s a new bookstore in New York City, but you won’t find the latest releases from Jonathan Franzen or Jodi Picoult there. In fact, Andrew Kessler’s store, Ed’s Martian Book, stocks only one title: Kessler’s new non-fiction book, Martian Summer: Robot Arms, Cowboy Spacemen, and My 90 Days With the Phoenix Mars Mission. According to an article in the Toronto Star, Kessler stocked the store with 3,000 copies of the title, and has already sold 500 of them.
It looks like this kind of amazing art installation. You don’t really see so many books stacked like that, Kessler told the Star. As a new author it’s hard to get prime shelf space, so the mono-bookstore was built.
The longtime space fan said the scientific off-beat humour of the book is reflected in the alien-wallpapered store, called Ed’s Martian Book.
(I) imagined someone named Ed would open a store like this, he explained.
According to the article, the store will remain open only until May 15.
Quillblog’s favourite part of the story is the picture that accompanies the Star‘s article. Shelf upon shelf of Kessler’s book appears, along with a sign that reads, “New in nonfiction.”
