Michael Tamblyn leaves BookNet Canada for Shortcovers

Michael Tamblyn, the founding CEO of BookNet Canada, has stepped down after six years to become vice-president of content, sales, and merchandising at Shortcovers, Indigo’s new digital publishing venture. Tamblyn will be succeeded at BookNet by Noah Genner, who has served as BookNet’s technology director for the past five years.

A press release from BookNet reads:

The past six years have seen the Canadian book market become a leader in book industry supply chain innovation. During Mr. Tamblyn’s tenure, BookNet Canada launched the highly successful BNC SalesData service, tracking book retail sales in the Canadian market, as well as the nation-wide electronic trading network for booksellers and publishers. They drove industry-wide adoption of the ONIX standard and started the popular BNC Technology Forum, a conference on books and technology held each year in Toronto.

While we’re going to miss Michael and the energy and passion that he brought to this organization, BookNet is going to continue to drive innovation in the Canadian book market, said Peter Waldock, Chair of the BookNet Canada Board of Directors. There are new services in development and plenty of great work still to be done. It’s all-systems-go at BookNet Canada.
