Donald Carr, Sean G. Meggeson win 2024 LCP Spoken Word Award

Poets Donald Carr and Sean G. Meggeson have been named the winners of the 2024 LCP Spoken Word Award.

The biannual prize, launched in the winter of 2023 by the League of Canadian Poets, celebrates the range of styles within spoken-word poetry. The award recognizes two distinct schools of spoken-word poetry with its winners. Each winner receives $1,000.

Carr and Meggeson were selected by jurors Charlie Petch and Adeena Karasick from a shortlist of eight poets announced last week.

Carr won for his poem “Lies My Father Taught Me.” Meggeson won for “Post Pasolini Soma-Synthesis Elegy: A Drone Collage in 5 Parts.”

Videos of both poets performing their winning works are available on the League of Canadian Poets website.
