Eight poets have been named finalists for the LCP Spoken Word Prize.
The biannual prize, awarded by the League of Canadian Poets, was launched this year. Adeena Karasick and Ian Keteku were the winners of the inaugural prize, which was awarded in January.
The LCP Spoken Word Award recognizes two poems or suites of poems that represent two distinct schools of spoken word poetry. The two winners of this award, each of whom will receive $1,000, will be announced on Sept. 24.

- Gary Barwin for “For William Blake”
- MayaSpoken for “Polar Bears”
- Sean G. Meggeson for “Post Pasolini Soma-Synthesis Elegy: A Drone Collage in 5 Parts”
- Tahira Rajwani for a suite of four poems (“Mother Tongue”, “Ode to the Separate Bank Account”, “Brown Girl with Glasses”, “My Boys”)
- Zico for “Statement of Intent”
The finalists were selected by Adeena Karasick and Charlie Petch.
