Five books have been shortlisted for the 2024 Atwood Gibson Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize.
The $60,000 annual prize recognizes the best short story collection or novel by a Canadian author. Each finalist receives $5,000.
The finalists are:
- Éric Chacour and Pablo Strauss, trans., for What I Know About You (Coach House Books)
- Connor Kerr for Prairie Edge (Strange Light/Penguin Random House Canada)
- Canisia Lubrin for Code Noir (Knopf Canada/PRHC)
- Fawn Parker for Hi, It’s Me (McClelland & Stewart/PRHC)
- Sheung-King for Batshit Seven (Penguin Canada/PRHC)
A jury comprised of fiction writers Saeed Teebi, Joan Thomas, and Uchechukwu Peter Umezurike selected the shortlisted titles from 139 books submitted by 70 publishing imprints.
The winner will be announced at the Writers’ Trust Awards in Toronto on Nov. 19. Previous winners of the prize include Emma Donoghue, Miriam Toews, André Alexis, and last year’s winner, Kai Thomas.
