Edmonton sports writer Curtis Stock is one of three writers shortlisted for a U.S. literary award that honours the best books about thoroughbred racing.
Stock’s The Turcottes: The Remarkable Story of a Horse Racing Dynasty (Firefly Books) is the biography of the very successful New Brunswick family of horse jockeys that includes Ron Turcotte, who rode Secretariat to the Triple Crown in 1973.
The other finalists for this year’s Dr. Tony Ryan Book Award are Katherine C. Mooney for Isaac Murphy: The Rise and Fall of a Black Jockey and Kim Wickens for Lexington: The Extraordinary Life and Turbulent Times of America’s Legendary Racehorse.
The winner receives a $10,000 prize with $1,000 going to each runner-up. The winner will be announced in November in Kentucky.
