Patrick deWitt wins 2024 Leacock Medal

Patrick deWitt has won the 2024 Stephen Leacock Memorial Medal for Humour.

DeWitt was named the winner of the $25,000 prize for his novel The Librarianist (House of Anansi Press) at a gala in Orillia, Ontario, on June 22.

Runners-up Ali Bryan (Coq, published by Freehand Books) and Deborah Willis (Girlfriend on Mars, published by Hamish Hamilton) each receive $5,000.

The annual award for literary humour has been awarded since 1947. Previous winners include Terry Fallis, W.O. Mitchell, Stuart McLean, and last year’s winner, Wayne Johnston.

The three finalists were chosen from a longlist announced in May.
