More than 10 Canadians have been nominated for the 2024 Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards.
Ashley Spires, Emily Carroll, Jeff Lemire, Chris Oliveros, Mariko Tamaki and Jilian Tamaki are among the nominees in 32 categories.
Carroll, who recently won the 2024 Doug Wright Award, received three nominations for A Guest in the House (First Second): one for best graphic album, one for best writer/artist, and one for best letterer.
Cousins Mariko Tamaki and Jillian Tamaki also received three nominations for their graphic novel Roaming (Drawn & Quarterly): one for best graphic album, one for best writer, and one for best penciller/inker.
Spires was nominated in the best publication for early readers category for Burt the Beetle Lives Here! (Kids Can Press).
Lemire was nominated alongside Gabriel Hernández Walta in the best new series category for Phantom Road (Image Comics).
Chris Oliveros received a nomination for best reality-based work for Are You Willing to Die for the Cause?, about the FLQ. (Drawn & Quarterly).
Where I’m Coming From, by Barbara Brandon-Croft, edited by Peggy Burns and Tracy Hurren (Drawn & Quarterly) was shortlisted for Best Archival Collection/Project—Strips.
Sam Maggs, with Keisha Okafor, received a best short story nomination for “Friendship Is Forever” in My Little Pony 40th Celebration (IDW).
Aminder Dhaliwal has been nominated for best digital comic for A Witch’s Guide to Burning.
Montreal publisher Drawn & Quarterly garnered a total of eight nominations.
Toronto-based writer Larry Hancock and artist Michael Cherkas have been nominated in the best short story category for “Talking to a Hill” in Comics for Ukraine (Zoop).
Nominees for the annual awards, now in their 36th year, were announced last week. Winners will be announced during San Diego Comic-Con on July 26.
