Five Canadian graphic novelists are being honoured with a newly released set of stamps.
The stamps featuring work by Chester Brown, Michel Rabagliati, Seth, and Jillian and Mariko Tamaki were unveiled in Toronto on May 10 at the 2024 Toronto Comic Arts Festival.
In announcing the new stamps, Canada Post noted that although stamps have previously featured superheroes from comic books, this is the first time that it is featuring artwork from Canadian graphic novelists.
To create the stamps, each artist worked with Canada Post to create original drawings of the main characters from their books reading their own stories.
Brown’s stamp features Louis Riel engrossed in Louis Riel: A Comic-Strip Biography. In Rabagliati’s stamp, Paul, the title character of his semi-autobiographical graphic novel series, looks at the first volume, Paul à Québec. Simon Matchcard reads a copy of Clyde Fans in Seth’s stamp. And the stamp from the Tamaki cousins features Rose and Windy from This One Summer, their second graphic novel collaboration.
The stamps, as well as collectible first day covers featuring each one, are now available for purchase from Canada Post.
