Hamilton teen launches companion website to TV series on middle-grade books

Ainara Alleyne, host of the TVOkids series Ainara’s Bookshelf, is set to launch Ainara’s Book Club

The book club website will feature The Barren Grounds by David A. Robertson, From the Desk of Zoe Washington by Janae Marks, The Witch Boy by Molly Knox Ostertag, Witchlings by Claribel A. Ortega, and Beatrice and Croc Harry by Lawrence Hill.

“I’m thrilled with the launch of the companion website Ainara’s Book Club,” said Ainara Alleyne in the press release. “I hope students and teachers alike can experience the books on a deeper level that bring even greater understanding of the stories.”

Ainara launched the TV series that spotlights middle-grade books written by diverse creators as an offshoot of her Instagram feed @ainarasbookshelf. The Hamilton, Ontario–based teenager is an avid reader who served as the Hamilton Public Library’s first Junior Librarian in resident from 2020–21.

For each book on Ainara’s Book Club, an introduction and modules that contain four curriculum aligned sections ranging from “comprehension (research and resources), go deeper (new learnings), get creative (activity), and a journal activity (writing prompts)” will be provided. Readers will also be given the opportunity to explore new modules and content including quizzes, story maps, Cree language learnings, and additional video content.

Ainara’s Book Club will launch on May 14.
