The eighth annual $40,000 (U.S.) Whiting Creative Nonfiction Grant is now open to submissions from writers hoping to be selected as one of up to 10 winners of this year’s grant.
The grant was launched in 2016 by the Whiting Foundation, an American organization that supports writers and scholars, to support writers working on multi-year, book-length nonfiction projects.
Previous winners include Sarah M. Broom, whose book The Yellow House (Grove, 2019) went on to win a National Book Award, and Pulitzer-Prize winning reporter Andrea Elliot, whose book The Invisible Child was published by Random House in 2021.
Last year for the first time, the Whiting Foundation opened the prize to writers in Canada and the U.K.
Applicants must have a signed contract with a Canadian, U.K., or U.S. publisher to be eligible.
Submissions are due April 25. The Whiting Foundation is hosting free online information sessions about the application process on February 22 and March 23.
