I Read Canadian Day is a nationwide celebration of Canadian literature for young readers. Launched in 2020, the initiative aims to get every individual across the nation to read a Canadian book of their choice for 15 minutes.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau officially proclaimed February 17th I Read Canadian Day earlier this morning.
With sales of juvenile books by a Canadian author or illustrator down 7 per cent and young adult titles by a Canadian author down 30 per cent compared with 2019, the need to support Canadian literature is greater than ever. Join the conversation by following @IReadCanadian and using the hashtag #IReadCanadian.
I Read Canadian Day is a collaboration between CANSCAIP, children’s author Eric Walters, the Canadian Children’s Book Centre, and the Ontario Library Association.
