Moncton’s Frye Festival is the latest literary event to cancel because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The 21st edition of the festival was to be held April 17–26.
Throughout April, Frye organizers are planning to offer reading suggestions and discussions about books from confirmed authors via the festival’s social-media networks. Frye’s official bookseller, Tidewater Books, is well stocked with festival French- and English-language titles.
Montreal’s Blue Metropolis International Literary Festival, initially scheduled for May 1–6, is also cancelled. The 2020 TD-Blue Metropolis Children’s Festival, which was scheduled to take place in April, may be postponed until the end of May or beginning of June, depending on the status of school and public libraries closures.
On its website, Blue Metropolis is providing a series of creativity workshops for children between the ages of 6 and 11, and plans to offer reading recommendations on its social-media platforms. Details about the festival’s all-ages Spontaneous Book Club, which will offer complimentary vouchers to be used at bookstores, will be available soon on the festival’s Facebook page.
